Mehmet Ali Uysal: Skin

Overview

Pi Artworks London announces the opening of its new London gallery at Perseverance Works, Shoreditch, with Skin, a solo exhibition by Mehmet Ali Uysal, opening 5 June 2026.

Following 13 years at its Eastcastle Street space in Fitzrovia, this move marks a deliberate shift towards a programme that operates across exhibition and production, supported by a new spatial structure spanning both gallery and project space. Located on the ground and first floors of Perseverance Works — a former industrial complex in East London.

The inaugural exhibition brings together key works from Uysal’s internationally recognised Skin series. Across sculpture and site-responsive installation, Uysal approaches architectural space as a living surface — a skin — that can be stretched, compressed, pierced, or displaced. At once precise and playful, his interventions subtly destabilise the built environment, inviting a renewed awareness of how space is constructed and perceived.

Born in 1976 in Mersin and based in Paris, Uysal was trained initially trained in architecture and urban planning before completing his PHD studies in sculpture. His practice operates at the intersection of structural logic and perceptual illusion, and has been presented internationally, including major public commissions across Europe, the United States, Mexico, and the Middle East. The Skin series remains a defining body of work, with large-scale outdoor iterations installed globally.
