Jyll Bradley, East of the Aldgate Pump: Whitechapel Gallery

15 July - 6 September 2026

Jyll Bradley is included in East of the Aldgate Pump, the anchor group exhibition of Backyard Biennial: East — Whitechapel Gallery's inaugural summer biennial and a flagship of its 125th anniversary year.

Free and running across more than 40 venues in East London, the biennial gathers exhibitions, installations, performances and residencies celebrating the area's histories of migration, kinship and community. East of the Aldgate Pump brings together twelve local, national and international artists.

Bradley presents Self Portrait, jumper (1987–2024), paired photographic prints drawn from an original negative and set within her signature live-edge fluorescent Plexiglas frames — a work from the Collection of Sir Elton John & David Furnish. Continuing the practice she describes as "queering minimalism," it holds together light, identity and place, revisiting her early self-portraiture through the material language that has defined her work since the 1980s.
