After the great success of the first volume in 2008, Pars Pro Toto II is again developed in the course of a close dialogue of German-Egyptian artist Susan Hefuna with the editor, Hans Ulrich Obrist. The elaborately designed book will focus on Susan Hefuna's new body of work, mixing intercultural codes and myths from German and Egyptian heritage. The book presents new drawing series as well as Hefuna's wooden Mashrabiya "Meditation Screens", painted in white or black, inscribed with faintly visible words in Arabic and English. It includes a new interview series by Obrist with Hefuna, and with renowned Egyptian author Gamal Al Ghitani as well as an essay by British mathematician and author Marcus du Sautoy about Hefuna's drawings. Hefuna's work has been widely exhibited at such venues as Louvre, Paris; Townhouse Gallery, Cairo; House of World Cultures, Berlin; The Third Line Gallery, Dubai; Sharjah Biennial; Albion Gallery London and New York; New Museum, New York, Sevilla Biennial, and many more. She is currently nominated for the 2009 Jameel Prize of London's Victoria & Albert Museum.
