Volkan Aslan’s Those Who Wear the Same
T-shirt exhibition will
run between February 25th and March 20th 2010 at Pi Artworks Gallery 2. Those
Who Wear the Same T-shirt is a video installation based on the interviews with people
wearing Turkish flag T-shirts.
Since 2008, Volkan Aslan opened exhibitions in Italy (‘save as’, Triennial Bovisa Museum), Germany
(Frankfurt – Weimar) and France (Strasbourg). This season he joined the
exhibitions; Reciprocal
Visit at Depo, ‘a question of stage’ in Manzara Perspectives and ‘Temporary Harassment’ with in Istanbul 2010 events. Aslan is one of the emerging young artist of Turkish contemporary art. Aslan will participate residency
programs in London in March 2010 and in 2010-11 Munich, Germany.
Video installation idea came up with the question of ‘What kind
of a feeling?’ and emerged with many speeches with many people living in
different cities.
Ordinary, a warm summer
evening. A crowded street. A man shorter than I am, is comings towards me, he
has the same T-shirt on him, just like mine. I wonder if we are a like?
Aslan is curious about how different people in different
geographies react to a “national symbol”, The Flag. Questioning this feeling,
in his video installation Aslan leaves us in a gray zone of reality versus
fiction.
He is putting together video images that he filmed in
different cities. Extending an adventure through the sameness of the
differences this video work underlines concepts such as fiction, reality,
sameness, differences, nation…
